Please note:
Using iron on veneer edging can be a tricky process. We include guidance notes with all orders. To help avoid issues, we strongly suggest that these are read before using the veneer. If unsure after reading them, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you cannot find the guidance notes, please contact us before starting and we will email a copy. If preferred, we are happy to advise before ordering, particularly if you are unsure whether the veneer will suit your application/project.
We do not recommend these sheets for multiple / side by side applications. They are intended for furniture making and single strip applications, e.g. stair stringers.
They can expand when heat is applied and then shrink slightly as they cool and dry. This can create a gap between sheets.
For larger projects, we recommend our unglued membrane backed Oak. The membrane helps to keep the veneer flexible and flat. It is normally applied with a contact adhesive or by using conventional veneering techniques. We are happy to advise, or a search on for example Youtube should bring up various information videos on veneering.
Our unglued sheets tend to be straight grained to help conceal any finger joints present in the length.
This is a natural raw wood veneer product. A finish should be applied after bonding. The veneer can also be stained to taste or to achieve a closer colour match.
All real wood varies in colour naturally and every sheet is unique. With this in mind, the listing photos are for general guidance only.
New, unfinished wood/edging will almost certainly be a lot lighter in colour than existing wood, especially as our material has been sanded. If matching to existing wood, it is very likely that the piece to be matched will have been treated with a finish, e.g. wax or lacquer. Dampening a corner of the sheet slightly will give an idea of what the colour and grain will look like after a finish has been applied. As we say above, the veneer can be stained to match existing shades and colours.
Aging can also change the shade/colour of existing wood. The final colour of any real wood edging is often determined by the finish(es) applied. We are happy to advise in this respect and also look at samples or photos sent in. Please contact us for details.
Samples are available to buy for a small charge just to cover P&P. However, they are really only useful for identifying species. As we say above, colour and grain varies, even in the same species.
If in doubt, please contact us for advice. Many thanks.
